Paying for a shop when you needed a website

The problem

We sold our programs online through a paid e-commerce platform at $70 a month. Online sales didn't get the traction we expected. We paid for a full shop that we did not really use.

What we built

We moved to a WordPress website on standard hosting. It had the same content and a lower cost.

We brought in a developer for the migration to keep the switch low-risk. Online sales can come back later with a free plugin if they are ever needed.

The result

  • ·3 years on the shop platform: $2,520. 3 years after the move: $730, migration included.
  • ·The switch paid for itself in about 8 months
  • ·We own the site and its data, and online sales are still an option
