From 1,200 handwritten labels a day to one button

The problem

Staff weighed every finished roll and wrote the roll number and weight by hand on two labels. On busy days that was up to 600 rolls, so 1,200 labels. They then manually wrote the totals by hand, and calculated for each job report. Labels were sometimes missed, and errors were costly.

What we built

We connected the existing scales to the office computer. Now one button press records the weight, builds the label with the correct job details, and prints both copies.

The system also calculates job estimates, finished totals and pallet labels automatically. For contract work, it prints labels in the customer's own branding.

The result

  • ·No missed or unreadable labels
  • ·Job reports build themselves
  • ·~$10k a year saved in accuracy (estimated)
  • ·No new equipment and no subscription: it uses the scales and Excel they already had
